Welwyn United Ladies secured a win against Hitchin Canaries at King George's on Sunday.

The league leaders dominated early on, but Welwyn scored first when Mia Jager took advantage of a dropped ball by the Hitchin keeper.

Abigail Merry's free kick set up Abby Montgomery to double the lead.

Defender Claudia Cowap-Whiskin orchestrated the third goal with a precise through ball, resulting in another goal.

Hitchin managed to pull one back before half time and made it 3-2 with a cross after the break.

Welwyn's keeper, Scarlett Merry, was in fine form, making several crucial saves, including a dramatic punch onto the crossbar from a halfway line shot.

Merry quickly cleared the rebound, preventing a Hitchin equaliser.

The home team sealed their victory when Imogen O'Carroll set up Jager for her hat-trick.

One on one with the keeper, Jager chipped the ball in again, clinching the win for Welwyn.

The victory propels Welwyn to second place in the league.

They are set to face Bedford Central at home next Sunday.
