Welwyn United Ladies fought back from two early goals to draw 2-2 with Caddington Ladies in their opening campaign match.
The match was Caddington’s first ladies campaign, and the young home side made a confident start. Welwyn had a shaky opening and conceded twice in the first 20 minutes.
However, the visitors settled and began to control the game. Mia Jager hit the crossbar before Ava Rawlins struck the bar, with the ball bouncing down and out.
Ewelina Hinc then played a ball through to Jager, who put it past the keeper to make it 2-1.
Welwyn started the second half strongly and looked for an equaliser. Lillie Cole found Jager with a pass, but Jager’s finish was ruled offside.
Welwyn continued to press, and Rawlins sent the ball across the box. It fell to debutant Cole, who volleyed past the keeper to level the score.
The visitors kept pushing for a third, while Rebecca Sanders was denied by a challenge from the advancing Caddington keeper.
Welwyn’s defence held firm. Sian Appleyard controlled the left side of the pitch, while Claudia Cowap-Whiskin stopped a Caddington striker after she broke through one-on-one.
Welwyn United Ladies host Kempston on September 13.
