KNEBWORTH Park leapfrogged into top place in Division One of the Herts Cricket League after a 26-run victory over Hoddesdon on Saturday.

After winning the toss, Park captain Tony Skeggs decided to bat on what turned out to be a slow, low scoring wicket.

Openers Jarrod Turner and Tony Skeggs made a steady, but very slow start, putting on 65 in 23 overs in just under 90 minutes.

Turner's was the first wicket to fall having made 30, and Tony Skeggs (4), Ryan Skeggs (27) and Phil Simpson soon departed the crease and the Park were on 75-4.

However, the middle order through to the tail held firm, and managed to push the total up to 172.

Sam McCrow and Charlie Randall did a fantastic job opening the bowling, conceding few runs, the former taking two wickets.

But it was Tony Skeggs and Jarrod Turner who claimed the victory, taking the last three Hoddesdon wickets to seal a crucial win.
