Welwyn Garden City boss Marc Weatherstone will not be getting himself carried away with giddiness - even if a glance at the Southern League tables will put a big smile on his face.

The Citizens made it two 1-0 wins over the bank holiday weekend, following the success at Beaconsfield Town on Saturday with another win at home to London Lions on Monday.

It means it is now three wins from four and they find themselves third in the standings, one point behind leaders Biggleswade.

But a good start is a good start and the City boss now has to keep it going.

He said: "We've only played four games and I’m not going to get carried away, but we’ve played four games and won three of them.

"That's what I call a good start. You know, if you win three games out of every four, you'll be right in there.

"It's important to get a good start and I use the word confidence again, it breeds confidence and winning becomes a habit.

"It doesn't matter how the wins come, if you find a way it breeds a habit in your club.

"It’ll be nice to look at the table and see us in third, but I need to see that in March and April.

"It's my job now to try and keep the boys fit. Last year we had a ridiculous amount of injuries and it didn't help.

"We haven't got big squad and I can't just go sign players when somebody's injured, we’ve not got the money for that.

"Thursday will be a light session and a recovery session and we’ll get ready for Saturday and hopefully another three points."

Substitute Bailey Stevenson snatched the winner three minutes from the end of the 90 and the boss was pleased with the impact the replacements could make.

"I had good players on the bench that I thought could change it and when they came on, they did the business," said Weatherstone.

"I thought [Lewis Taaffe] was excellent in at 10, he really put himself about, and [Bailey] obviously scored the winning goal for us.

"Some might say the manager did his job with the changes but that’s what I expect from them, that's what we have got.

"I'm not pleased with the performance, far from it, but six points from the weekend, I’m going to be positive."

And he was also happy with their ability to grind out a result despite not being at their best.

He said: "I always felt confident with the quality we’ve got in the team. We weren’t good but we got the three points.

"We huffed and puffed throughout the game and did create some chances and did get into the final third quite comfortably.

"We didn’t test their keeper as much but I’m confident it will come and I’m confident we’ll go to a team and really punish them, but at the minute, it’s not clicking.

"But 1-0 or 5-0, it all equals three points and two clean sheets over the weekend too. I’ll take that all day long.

"We’re a small club from the outside, and we are small, but I make sure we think we're a big club.

"We have to be a big club, we have to fight at the top end of the table, or as close to the top as we can get.

"And my confidence comes from, those games where we can leave it late because I know we’ll get half a chance.

It's not always going to happen, it’s not always going to go in our favour, but I always think we've got a chance.

"I want hunger from the boys to keep going, I want winners."
