One of our own was the cry from the Bar Army as Harry Brant bagged his first senior goals in a mauling of Hendon.

The 16-year-old Potters Bar Town star scored the third and fourth in a 5-1 success for the Scholars in the Isthmian League Premier Division.

And after being mobbed by his delighted team-mates, and celebrating with his equally delighted Dad on the terraces, he took a moment to reflect on a monumental day for him personally.

"I'm buzzing," he said. "To go nearly the whole season without a goal and then get two in 12 minutes is mad. I'm over the moon, it's a great feeling.

"I didn't even see the first one go in. Brandon Adams rugby tackled me immediately, or it felt like that in the moment anyway.

"I got a nice little connection and I'm buzzing to have scored."

It's been a rapid rise for the teenager who wasn't even in the first-team squad at the start of the year, plying his trade with the junior teams.

And he is now looking forward to what the new campaign will bring.

He said: "There have been some ups and downs but to score in the second to last game of the season, is a great way to end it.

"I've just got to go into pre-season, go through that and see how it goes next year, see what [manager Max Mitchell's] plans are.

"It's exciting."

While Brant is one huge positive this season for the Scholars, there are others, not least the fact that they have managed a strong mid-table finish despite playing away all year, their Lantern Stadium home only just ready after its transformation to an artificial surface.

Skipper Ronnie Henry said: "We can take positives out of the season for sure. We haven't been at home all season, that’s been tough and it hasn’t been easy playing here [at Kings Langley], even though it's a nice ground and it’s close to my house.

"It's been difficult not playing at home but to be safe from relegation many weeks ago was a great achievement.

"And to get the most points in Potters Bar’s history [at this level] is fantastic.

"It's a great achievement for that for that squad in there but we’ve still got one more game to play and hopefully we’ll get another three points.

"I've never played at Potters Bar in front of the home fans. but for the ones that have travelled throughout the season, a special thank you to them.

"It’s greatly appreciated by myself and the staff and the rest of the players.

"But going back home next season will be great for the football club and it'll be a fresh start and everyone's looking forward to it."

As for the win over the Greens, secured with Joe Re, Nana Kyei and Brandon Adams adding to Brant's double, Henry felt it was a success that has been needed.

"We've come off the back of some poor results recently," said the Stevenage legend. "Good Friday [a 2-0 loss away to already relegated Bowers & Pitsea] was very disappointing for all of us and we felt we owed a performance.

"And we got it.

"Hendon weren't too bad but once we came out in the second half and got that second goal, it was one-way traffic.

"It was probably as good as we've played for a while. We were on the front foot, we were energetic, surprisingly so after only one day's rest, but we were good for the win."
