Summer retention is often more important than recruitment and Potters Bar Town have started their business in fine style.

Manager Max Mitchell and assistant Liam Hope are stopping at the Lantern Stadium for next season, as is hotshot striker Brandon Adams and skipper Leigh Rose.

The Scholars lost their first six games of the season but then suffered just four losses in the next 25, before fatigue from a over inflated run of fixtures caught up with them.

The spell over the main part of the season though was good enough for the boss and his assistant to see the potential at the Isthmian League Premier Division side.

Mitchell said: "This season was about setting the foundations. We've had a really good run over 25 games and we feel there is a lot of potential.

"That potential doesn't have a ceiling at the moment.

"We've spoken to the club about the project and our thoughts and our plans align with them.

"I'm really pleased to continue our work at the club and we look forward to the future."

Assistant Hope was in complete agreement.

He said: "It's been a really good journey for us all through the season and I've enjoyed every aspect.

"We have built some good foundations and this is a chance to build on it.

"This is about that, putting us in a position to really kick on going into next season.

"What I've really enjoyed about working with this group now is we've got better and better.

"They are willing to take things on and improve.

"We've got the squad to a place where it is ultra-competitive, results have shown that in the last few months.

"We feel if we can keep the core together, we can build on that and start next season strong.

"I've really enjoyed this season but really excited about what the future holds for us on and off the pitch."

They aren't the only faces staying around though with two marquee names joining them on the continuation of the journey.

Adams, who has scored 17 in the league from 24 games, and 18 altogether, has signed a new deal which will run for two seasons.

Rose meanwhile has penned a one-year extension, the skipper making 39 appearances so far in the middle of the park, scoring six goals

That is just the start according to the manager though.

Mitchell said: "In terms of the foundations and the squad and where we're at, the improvements that we have made over the season, we feel we can develop those players.

"We believe in them, they have proven a lot of this season that they can compete at this level.

"We'll be looking to improve the squad in the summer as well, we want to grow and build."

Potters Bar also held their annual awards after Saturday's game, losing 1-0 to champions Hornchurch through a stoppage time goal.

Adams lifted the golden boot while Rose grabbed both the manager's player of the year prize and the players' player.

Prosper Keto was the young player of the year, while fellow defender Valckx Fernandes got the supporters' nod.

Bob Connor was named clubman of the season.
