Welwyn Garden City manager Marc Weatherstone believes his front line is the envy of the league - and he says they are firing the Citizens towards the Southern League Division One Central play-offs.

A 4-2 win over Kempston Rovers on Tuesday night made it four wins on the bounce and a seventh form the last 10, thrusting them up to seventh in the standings.

Dernell Wynter led the way with a 12 minute second half hat-trick after Lynton Goss had set them on their way.

And that is barely scratching the surface when it comes to striking talent.

Weatherstone said: "It was a great hat-trick from Dernell but we’ve got Bailey Stevenson coming off the bench, I've got Henry Jones out on loan and there’s Lucas Jordan.

"It's scary, anyone can come in and play well and I truly believe I've got the best front line in the league.

"I actually think I've got the best team on paper but I'm biased.

"We’ve scored in every game bar one and that's a record I want to keep going.

"And other than the two goals, defensively I thought we were sound and we have been in the last three games. We've been working hard on it.

"So I think we’ve got the best team in the league but we’ve got to back it up with results and we have done that.

"We’ve got to, we've got a very busy schedule coming up.

"We've got a very hard game on Saturday against an in form AFC Dunstable but we’ll pick them off game by game.

"We know it's in our hands."

Welwyn have at least three games in hand on all the sides above them, the horrendously wet weather not doing their pitch at the Pexhurst Stadium any good at all.

It makes life difficult for the players too but they are starting to come to grips with it.

"Every three points is pleasing at this stage of the season," said the boss.

"On our pitch, you’ve got to play in a certain way, play the percentages and so for the neutral, it wasn't great to watch although there were six goals in in the game.

"It's not a great pitch but we’ve got to deal with it

"And I want to give a shout out to the board and the volunteers who work hard on it.

"They are out there now putting a tarpaulin on it just to preserve it for the next game.

"They are doing the best for us in a bad situation and the players are adapting to it. That’s two wins at home this week."

He also had praise for two of the newer members of the squad.

Manny Yeboah has arrived on dual registration from Weatherstone's former club, Wingate & Finchley, while Charlie MacDonald is on loan from St Albans City.

The Welwyn boss said: "I managed Manny at Wingate and I know the ability the kid has.

"He hasn't played for five months due to injuries and other things and I had to throw in. I didn't want to start him but I had to.

"The boy just took in his stride. Technically he is unbelievable, I wasn't sure on this pitch but he showed he could do the ugly side as well.

"He's a great signing for me and I know Wingate have got a strong team, but I still don't know how he can’t get in that team.

"He's a class act so very happy with him.

"I got Charlie McDonald from St Albans and [against Kidlington], he was probably one of the men of the match but we gave it to Gucci [Soulya-Osekanongo].

"Charlie played right back then and then was unreal in the midfield [against Kempston].

"We’ll look into extending that loan as well.

"Everyone's stepping up and it's so good because my job becomes easy now. I haven’t got to shout at them, I set them up in training, tell them what to do and they deliver.

"It's fantastic, a manager’s dream."
