A long-standing Potters Bar player has been given a call-up by India

Jigar Mehta is part of a 16-man squad off to the Over 40s IMC World Cup, being held in Cape Town, South Africa

Metha, who turned 40 in December, will be up against New Zealand, United Arab Emirates, Wales, Sri Lanka and the hosts South Africa from February 19.

India have also chosen former test player Wasim Jaffer in their side.

The other group has Herts Cricket League involvement too with Harpenden's Ben Frazer part of the England squad alongside Derbyshire and Glamorgan stalwart Graham Wagg.

They face matches against Zimbabwe, USA, Namibia, Australia and Canada.

A spokesman for Potters Bar said: "Good luck Jig in the light blue of India and we await to hear of your tales with a full glass and baited breath."

When he returns clubs will be preparing for the start of another Saracens HCL season, and the release of the fixtures has only whetted the appetite for that.

Potters Bar, who won back-to-back titles last season, begin their new defence with a home game against newly-promoted Shenley Village on May 11 before travelling across to town neighbours Old Owens one week later.

The return derby at The Walk is on July 20 with the curtain coming down on Bar's season at Harpenden.
