Max Mitchell slammed his Potters Bar Town team after ill-discipline sent them spiralling to defeat at Lewes.

Calvin Dickson was given a straight red card on 21 minutes in the Isthmian League Premier Division match at The Dripping Pan and Lewes scored twice in the next 13 minutes through Kalvin Lumbombo-Kalala and a Tommy Wood penalty.

Prosper Keto had been booked for his part in the award of the spot kick and he then doubled down on that with a second yellow in first-half stoppage time.

Sanchez Ming made it 3-0 on 52 minutes but that's where the scoring stopped, as the nine-men Scholars denied their hosts any more.

That at least brought some crumbs of comfort for the boss.

Mitchell said: "I felt the referee got both the red card decisions right. We need to do better in those situations so I have no complaints about the officials.

"First half we didn't start the game right and in this league, and especially away from home to teams like Lewes, you are going to come unstuck.

"The situation and scenario in the game didn't help but we put ourselves in that situation and that scenario.

"Second half we were excellent and we were relentless in what we did.

"We have to do better though [with discipline].

"The second half was all about containment. We had to contain a really good footballing side.

"They had a few half chances and a few shots from the edge of the box but we managed them.

"There's not many times in your career that you go down to nine men and we said we have to look at it.

"I always think there are learning opportunities within games. I'm not happy with how we started the game and us putting ourselves in that situation.

"We made some really poor decisions in that half but we didn't let the score get embarrassing in the second half.

"That was pleasing to a degree."

Concord Rangers away is the next game for the Scholars on Tuesday with Dulwich Hamlet arriving at the Lantern Stadium on Saturday.

The trip to Canvey Island though has to see the team play better though.

"It's another important fixture," said Mitchell. "The gap and the margins in terms of points and teams is not big at all.

"We need to regroup."
