Potters Bar are champions of the Herts Cricket League - but they almost had their moment of triumph scuppered by neighbours Old Owens.

A win of any shape or form was what was required for the Bar but with Owens having been one of the two teams to beat them this year, it proved to be no easy task.

It came down to the final over of the day and eventually the final ball of the season.

Bar had batted first and been held to 174, bowled out in their last over.

Owens had seemingly timed the chase to perfection and went into the final set of six needing five to win and four to deprive Bar of the title.

Jigar Mehta was tasked with winning the crown and after the first two deliveries yielded no runs, he had Jake Whickham caught behind by James Seward for 13.

That left them on 170-8 and the fourth ball again was a dot.

Taj Thakkar did manage to grab a single but it left Brad Lane needing three to win it.

He only managed another single to spark wild celebrations from the home players.

For Old Owens, there was one big positive to take from the frustration of defeat, the bonus points gained enough to leave them third from bottom and guaranteeing them another year in the top flight.

Trystan Kennedy had been their top scorer with 65 in 103 balls, seven of them going for fours.

Ralph Lane managed 35.

For Bar Mehta took 2-23 while skipper Luke Chapman managed 2-26 and Thilan Walallawita 2-29.

Steve Gale had top scored for them with 49 although 37 extras also made a massive difference.

Brad Lane was the pick of the Owens bowlers with 3-39 while Stephen Williams managed 2-38.

North Mymms also had plenty to celebrate as they confirmed their Premiership status with a seven wicket win at home to Totteridge Millhillians.

They had bowled the visitors to Home Farm out for 245, Dharmarajsinh Jhala and Richard Oxley claiming three wickets each.

Nesan Jeyaratnam and Armaan Randhawa were the heroes with the bat though.

Coming together with the score on 38-3, they batted for 36 overs, putting on an unbeaten stand of 208.

The skipper had the top score, he got 109 from 125 deliveries with 12 fours among his total.

Randhawa had eight boundaries in his 81 from 103 balls faced.

The result leaves Mymms seventh in the table and only 11 points behind Hertford in fourth.

Welwyn Garden City's miserable season ended with a 59-run loss away to Radlett.

Their relegation had already been confirmed but they had hoped to finish with a flourish at Cobden Hill against their old sparring partners.

It was also a losing battle though as whenever they felt they had gained a foothold in the game, Radlett kicked it away and powered on.

Dan Orchard and Dan Roomans combined to take the first wicket in the eighth over and they had a second at the end of the 13th.

Radlett had scored 69 by this point and had added another 62 when Fayaz Homyoon got two more in the same over.

And the pattern continued as for every wicket that fell, a solid if unspectacular partnership followed.

Radha Marripati took 3-39 as Radlett reached

Welwyn started the reply well enough with 32 for the first wicket but they soon slumped to 76-5.

Alex Chalker tried his hardest to rescue some pride with a swashbuckling 64 from 32 balls and there was 33 from Connor Emerton too.

However, the latter was the ninth man out and the season came to a disappointing end just one ball later.
