A quartet from Brookmans Park Golf Club were not overawed as they all shone at the Hertfordshire Men’s County Senior Championship.

Phil Embleton, Gary Higgins, Ian Simpson and Mark Walton all travelled to East Herts Golf Club in Buntingford as part of a 71-strong field for the two-day event.

Day one saw the field strimmed down with the cut taking the top 30 scores and all those within eight shots of the gross lead qualifying.

That sent 37 into the second day’s 18 holes of strokeplay competition.

All four from Brookmans Park made it through to a day that proved to be very competitive and close.

The eventual winner was Simon Kay of Ashridge with Embleton leading the Park contingent, tied for fifth overall and just three shots behind.

Higgins was one shot further back in seventh.

However, as well as the county champion competition for the best gross score over the two days, there was also a secondary competition, the Terry Trude Trophy.

This was for the best overall scores based on handicap and it was Higgins with a nett total of 143 that took that title.

Walton was the runner up in the handicap competition, just two shots further back, making it a good day for the Brookmans Park competitors.
