Rain proved a right royal pain with most games in the Herts Cricket League were affected.

In the Premiership just two reached a conclusion, although even here there was bitter disappointment for Welwyn Garden City.

They lost by seven wickets to Harpenden after a tough day at Digswell Park, leaving them still marooned at the bottom of the standings.

Put into bat on losing the toss, WGC were all out for 140 in 42 overs, although it hadn't been all bad.

Dylan Van der Westhuizen and Fayal Homyoon managed 47 for the first wicket before the latter was caught behind by former Welwyn skipper Dan Blacktopp off the bowling of Arthur Garrett.

That was one of three wickets the keeper had a say in, stumping Dylan Parker and Omar Faleel as the tail crumbled.

Van der Westhuizen top-scored with 36, just ahead of 34 from Alex Roberts but there was little else to cheer as WGC went from 104-3 to their final total.

They lost their last four wickets for just four runs, all in the same wonderful Andrew Neal over.

The Harpenden man still didn't finish as the pick of the bowlers despite his 4-40 in eight overs.

That honour went to Harry Seagrave with 4-28 from 14 overs, which amazingly contained just two maidens.

Harpenden's reply was altered due to rain meaning they had 38 overs to get to 141 and in the end, they needed only 28 of them.

Danyaal Khalid (40) and Chris Swanson (44) did the damage with an unbeaten fourth-wicket stand of 76 after Welwyn had threatened to make life difficult.

Homyoon, Jack Clayton and skipper Connor Emerton each grabbed one wicket.

Welwyn remain behind Old Owens who were held to a draw at home to North Mymms.

Batting first, the hosts made 145 in 37 overs with 52 from Brad Lane being the top score.

His was the penultimate wicket to fall, caught and bowled by Yuresh Malhotra with Owens on 138.

He had earlier shared a stand of 74 with Stephen Williams (40) for the sixth wicket as Owens recovered from 42-5.

Malhotra went on to get 2-19 for Mymms while Dharmarajsinh Jhala managed 3-45.

The star though was Richard Oxley with 5-30 in 12 overs.

Mymms were given 36 overs to reach their target after an adjustment for the weather and they looked on track to do so with a wonderful 79 from Jakob Bhula the top score.

He hit eight fours and two sixes in a knock of over two hours, eventually being run out having faced 96 balls.

Nobody else was able to stick with him though, the next best score being 15 from Neil Bamford, one of four in the teens for Owens.

Mymms had felt confident of success right up to Bhula's departure, coming to the second ball of the last over.

They had got to two overs to go needing 14 but managed just two in Jhala's last set of six.

A double on the first ball of the final over was just a tease though as Bhula couldn't repeat the trick moments later, and Mymms ended eight runs short on 138-7.

Rhys Carter took 3-43 while Lane managed 2-36.

With leaders Radlett's match against Totteridge Millhillians abandoned, Potters Bar missed the chance to overhaul them with a draw against Hertford.

They made 256-7 batting first, Charlie Scott hitting 62 and James Scott 60, Reece Hussain also chipping in with 52.

But despite 4-74 from Anmol Maheshram, hosts Hertford's innings finished on 225-6 in their 36 overs.
