The football season may have just ended but Welwyn Garden City are already well advanced in their preparations for next year.

They know all the details of who they will be playing too, after the announcement of the allocations for divisions in the non-league pyramid.

They will remain, as expected, in Southern League Division One Central with six new opponents for 2023-2024, some of them very familiar old foes.

Stotfold's promotion from the Spartan South Midlands League means they are one, as are champions Leighton Town.

Bedford Town, Kings Langley and North Leigh have all dopped back into the division after relegation from the Southern League premier divisions last term.

Marlow is the one surprise having been moved across from Isthmian League Division One Central.

The Citizens already have one new face in their squad too, following the acquisition of striker Dernell Wynter.

The former Potters Bar Town man links up again with City boss Marc Weatherstone, who he managed during his time with Wingate & Finchley.

And it is one that the WGC gaffer is delighted to have secured early.

Speaking on Twitter, Weatherstone said: "Dernell is a player I worked with last season, I rate him a lot and can’t wait to see him in a Welwyn shirt."

The Citizens have also announced most of their pre-season line-up, with one more hopefully in the pipeline.

The seven so far include three meetings with sides one division higher.

Chesham United are one, arriving at Herns Lane on July 15, Royston Town are another, also at home on July 18, while the third is Wingate & Finchley, WGC going to their training centre in Barnet on July 25.

The other home game is against just-relegated Brightlingsea Regent on July 29.

The programme begins on July 8 at Colney Heath with other away games at Northwood on July 22 and Cockfosters on August 1.
