After the week one total washout, the Herts Cricket League finally saw some action - with wins for Potters Bar and North Mymms.

The pair were involved in two of the three Premiership games to go ahead meaning they, along with Totteridge Millhillians, head the rest of the pack.

Bar cruised to a 133-run victory away to West Herts.

The batted splendidly too, having been put in by their Watford hosts, going on to muster 211-7 in their 50 overs.

James Seward was the early star for Bar as he picked up from his 2022 form, starring in two decent partnerships.

The first lasted for 41 runs and was ended when Reece Hussain chipped one back to Arjan Patel for 24.

The second lasted a longer, 72 runs this time as Seward and Charlie Scott started to put on an imposing total in the conditions

Seward was the man to leave as he fell five short of his half-century but Scott powered on until he got to 56.

His wicket inside the last 10 overs signalled a flurry of departing batsman, but Thilan Walallawita stuck around to hit a marvellous unbeaten 29 off 18 balls.

The variety in attack proved crucial as Bar wrapped up the win inside 30 overs, West Herts managing just 78.

Jigar Mehta started the romp on his way to 2-14 and they punished the home batsman continually, the second wicket partnership of 27 the biggest of the innings.

Walallawita also got two wickets, taking 2-10 in six overs, while there was one wicket each for skipper Luke Chapman and debutant Esam Rahman.

Anmol Maheshram though stole the show with 3-3 in 2.3 overs.

North Mymms meanwhile defeated Hertford by a thrilling eight runs at Balls Park.

They had been put into bat by their hosts and would have been pleased to have managed a total of 209 all out, the final wicket coming on the final ball of their 50th over.

Neil Bamford was the star for Mymms, putting on 62 of the first wicket with Zaid Kureshi, before going on to fashion 94 from 125 deliveries, 10 of them coming off fours.

Richard Soulsby chipped in with 31 while Armaan Randhawa and Yuvresh Malhotra added quick knocks of 14 and 12.

Bailey Eustance was the Hertford bowler to shine with 4-28.

The Hertford reply had looked in trouble at 79-4, Hugh Cavener's 46 aside, but Jayden Broodryk (32) and Max Lawrence (50*) ensured they stayed in contention.

And it meant they needed 13 off the last over with just one wicket remaining, but having got three from the first three balls, Kyle Wilson was run out as they attempted to turn a single into a double.

Malhotra returned with 3-45 but the pick of the bowlers was Dharmarajsinh Jhala who took 4-34.

Mymms and Potters Bar meet in an early top of the table battle on Saturday at Home Farm.

Welwyn Garden City's home game with Bishop's Stortford and Old Owens' battle with Radlett were the two matches called off, meaning neither have bowled or hit a ball in anger after two weeks of the campaign.

It is Welwyn's turn to go to West Herts this week while Old Owens travel to Harpenden.
