Potters Bar's men put themselves on the verge of safety by finishing the East Hockey League season with a victory.

A hat-trick from Ed Whybrow paved the way for a 6-3 success at Hertford, a result that lifted them up to 10th in the 13-strong Division One South.

The bottom two definitely go down with a third being relegated to take the division to an even 12 teams.

That will be on a points-per-game basis though and Bar now just need the clarification that theirs is good enough.

Bar could yet move up or down a place, with the clubs above and below them both having one more game to play on April 15.

Brentwood go to third-placed St Albans while Old Loughtonians face champions Bishop's Stortford.

Mark Turpin (two) and James Brooking got the others in the victory at Hertford.

The second team lost 5-1 at home to Rickmansworth, Hugo Pomain the scorer, but a 3-2 victory for the thirds at Shefford & Sandy means they are champions of Division Four South West.

Warren Edmondson had scored twice but they needed a last-gasp winner from George Wickham to confirm their champions status.

This means there will be the odd situation next season where the club's third team are playing at a higher level than the seconds.
