Garden City Runners took advantage of a county championship on their doorstep as they took on the Hatfield 5 mile race.

The event, which started and finished at the University of Hertfordshire and looped over to Smallford and back, doubled as the county masters 5-mile championship.

A soggy start gave way to mild conditions and the flat and mostly road based course suited all runners.

For Anne and Sarah Valentine it was their first race but for others, there was a serious element with Peter Harvey claiming a silver in the MV50 group.

Lucy Iles was the first GCR lady to finish and Dan Pudner the first GCR male.

The warm, autumnal weather saw many GCRs take part in parkruns across Herts and beyond.

A group of GCRs travelled to Houghton Hall parkrun, including Caroline Hughes (34:29), Rob Casserley (19:32), Dan Pudner (19:21) who also finished second overall.

Others to run included Richard Somerset (19:40), Rob Hughes (21:58), Johan Preis (23:14) and Philip Hawkes (21:53).

The club's home run at Panshanger saw Chris Eland take first place in 19:21 and Martha Hall the first lady with a time of 22:10.

Helen Stafford was fourth.
