A trio from Potters Bar UK Karate Club were part of the England squad at the WUKF Karate European Championships - and they returned successful.

Held in Florence, Italy, the youngest of the three, Firdaous Bilaloglu, managed to win her kumite (fighting) and kata (form) sections.

Nuran Bilaloglu, the middle of the three, took a bronze in her individual kumite section and another bronze in the team kumite.

Reyhan Bilaloglu, the oldest, was the real star of not just the club but the entire England squad.

She managed to win her individual weight kumite section, the open weight section, got a silver in one of the team kumite events and a third gold in the second team kumite section.

A spokesman for the club said: "Three golds and a silver is an incredible feat and not only did Reyhan take more medals than anyone else on the squad, she did it in style, successfully executing very skilled spinning kicks and sweeps.

"[The medals from the three girls] contributed to England's 24 gold, 13 silver and 15 bronze. ehich put us second on the medal table, the best we have eveer done at the championships."
