Only the men of Potters Bar Hockey Club were in action this weekend - and they didn't get the same 100 per cent win ratio as a week earlier.

The firsts though did put in a much-improved performance from earlier in the season in a 4-3 loss at St Albans.

The game started superbly for the visitors, Ed Whybrow slotting home a penalty flick in five minutes.

The Tangerines equalised two minutes later but Potters Bar were not knocked back and regained the advantage on 14 minutes with a goal from Mark Turpin, squeezing one in from close range.

It was all square again though on the stroke of half-time after a low drag flick from a penalty corner.

St Albans showed why they are one of the better teams in the division after the break with plenty of slick passing moves and they took the lead for the first time from another short corner.

The fourth was a hammer blow to the Bar, deflected in off James McCormick, but they set up a grandstand finish with a well-worked team goal, finished off by Miles Tomkins

It didn't change the outcome but does add to the growing belief in the team.

The seconds drew 1-1 at home to Royston, Ben Roberts the scorer, while the fourths were beaten 2-0 by Hertford, also at Dame Alice Owen's.

There was better news for the thirds though as they won 3-0 away to Southgate with goals from Warren Edmonson, George Wickham and Aaron Patel.
