Potters Bar Town are back on top of the table - and no, this isn't the report from the previous week.

The Scholars had hit the summit one week ago with a 1-0 home win over Bowers & Pitsea but such is the tight nature of the Isthmian League Premier Division, they were bumped down to third in the week after wins for Hornchurch and Aveley.

However, a double from Kasim Aidoo brought a 2-1 win away to Haringey Borough and with Hornchurch held at Brightlingsea Regent, and Aveley beaten at Bowers, Bar found themselves back on top of the pile.

They are one point above Hornchurch and a further point clear of Aveley, who have played a game more.

All three goals at Coles Park came in the second period.

Aidoo put Potters Bar in front on 48 minutes, Aidoo drilling a shot low into the bottom corner following good work from Finlay Titchmarsh down the right.

He doubled the lead 13 minutes later and this one was all his own work, winning the ball on the edge of the area and firing low inside the near post.

Haringey pulled one back through Alphanso Kennedy but Bar defended the remaining time solidly to pick up the three points.

The Scholars play on Tuesday night at home to Lewes and follow that up with the visit of Hornchurch in a huge top of the table clash.

Urchins boss Mark Stimpson knows how tough the division is and is expecting a tough game.

He said: "At the start of the season, you could have said one of any eight teams could win the league.

"Most of those teams are up there, perhaps Billericay and Folkestone and Lewes are the ones not.

"But you have to give credit to Potters Bar, they have had a fantastic start as have Aveley.

"It’s an open league and a lot of it is to do with who stays fit."

The two games, plus the clash against Margate on December 10, form part of a special deal the club are running during the World Cup.

If you buy a ticket for all three, you will only pay the equivalent cost of two match-day tickets.

Go to the club website to purchase them.

The second deal involves people who have a season ticket with any other club aside from the two involved in the specific match.

Simply show your season ticket on the gate for either of the three games and receive entry for £5.

It is designed to attract Premier League and Championship fans while their teams take a break but also applies to all levels.

A spokesman for the club said: "We look forward to welcoming fans to the Lantern Stadium during the World Cup and hope we can see an increase in attendance as we look to continue our challenge near the top of the Isthmian League Premier Division."
