The first team led the way for a clean sweep of wins for the men of Potters Bar Hockey Club.

They won what was a tricky home game against Upminster, a back-to-back success that continues their rise out of the bottom three in East League Division One South.

It was a scrappy affair at times, with five cards of either a green or yellow hue, but goals from Mark Turpin and man of the match Ed Whybrow ensured a 2-1 win and a move up to eighth in the table.

Division Four South West has just three points separating the top six sides, and Bar's second and third strings are among them.

The twos are third after a 3-1 home win over Luton Town, Thomas Nafis, Ben Cade and Hugo Pomian on target, while the threes won 2-0 at Royston with just 10 men, Louis Anastasiou and Christos Votsis the scorers.

And there was a hat-trick from Simon Kelly as the fourths beat Rickmansworth 6-1 to go second in Division Seven South West.

Andy Latham (two) and Freddie Kelly got the others.

There was a much-improved display from the top side in the ladies' section too even though they lost 2-1 at Harpenden.

Nicki Hughes got their goal.
