Brookmans Park Golf Club will welcome members back to the course from next week although they may not notice some major upgrades to the facilities.
Concerned with the threat of wetter winters in the future, the club have improved the drainage to "future proof both the fairways and greens with the aim of making course or green closures a thing of the past".
The work, being carried out by contractors alongside willing volunteers, started earlier this month and most will be completed before the reopening on March 29.
The upgrades to the challenging and picturesque course will ensure all-year-round golf for its members and visitors and there will be a full programme of internal competitions and club matches against other clubs from April onwards.
A spokesman for the club said: "Everyone at the club is looking forward to getting back on the course and enjoying their sport, after what has been a very difficult and challenging time for everyone."
