MAVERICKS edged to a 47-43 Superleague victory away to Leeds Carnegie last night (Monday).

Victory and the two points keeps the Hatfield-based outfit firmly in the play-off places with less than half of the season to go.

The defending national Superleague champions remain in third spot behind unbeaten leaders Team Bath and second-placed Loughborough Lightning.

Prior to the game earlier this week, Mavericks coach Kendra Slawinski had stated that Leeds were a side pushing for a top four place.

The Yorkshire team showed they are no pushovers as Mavericks claimed a narrow four-point victory.

Two of Mavericks' players along with Slawinski are now set to join up with England for their three-match series with Jamaica.

Slawinski will be the acting assistant coach for the three games.

She is to be joined in the national set-up by Mavericks pair Karen Atkinson and star shooter Louisa Brownfield.

Atkinson is the England co-captain, along with Brunel Hurricanes defender Sonia Mkoloma.

The Mavericks wing attack/centre currently has 97 international caps, so could make it 100 in the third game of the series with Jamaica.

Goal shooter Brownfield will be hoping to also increase her number of international appearances.

The three-match series will see England take on the Sunshine Girls in matches across the whole of the country.

Firstly, they will meet on Sunday (February 22) at The O2 in London, followed by a game in Coventry two days later.

On February 26 the series comes to a close when the two do battle in Nottingham in what could be the decider.

Mavericks are next in action on Friday, February 27 when they host Glasgow Wildcats at the University of Hertfordshire.

They are likely to be without Brownfield and Atkinson for this one after their international call-ups.

The encounter will start at 8pm.

Clear hot favourites to win that game will be the home outfit.

Wildcats are bottom of the Superleague table with just a single win from their 13 matches so far this season.
