CODICOTE Reserves continued their recent good form with a battling 2-0 victory over a physical Evergreen side in blustery and wet conditions at their Bury Lane home.

Adam Fisher's men got off to a flying start on Saturday and created three or four clear-cut chances to open the scoring.

Some good deliveries by the ever-present Lee McDonald and debutant Jason Coughlan made it a nightmare for the away keeper.

Codicote took the lead on 20 minutes when one of McDonald's inswinging corners drifted over the keeper and striker Errol Reyner was waiting and ready to tap the ball in from six yards.

The score stayed 1-0 to the break and Codicote knew they were going to be up against it in the second half being against the wind and the rain.

They held firm against some high balls into the box and the trio of keeper Tom Wickes and centre backs Matt Claxon and Zak Seamons dealt with everything superbly and looked solid throughout the half.

This gave Codicote a good platform to build on.

The excellent Dan Rollinson consistently caused the Evergreen defence problems with his pace and direct running.

One of Rollinson's deep crosses found its way through to Lewis Cook, who hit a controlled volley into the bottom corner of the net.

Codicote dealt with everything that was thrown at them in the closing stages, and although seeing influential captain John Sneddon suffer a serious knee injury, they kept focused and picked up an important three points.

Manager Fisher said: "I was really pleased with the three points which were crucial for us to stay in the hunt for the title.

"We played well in most parts of the game but just as importantly we dug in and stood up strong when we had to.
