Lyla and Jessica Farrier, aged 10 and seven respectively, regularly visit the beauty spot with their mum for “welly walks”, but were shocked to find rubbish strewn everywhere on their previous visit.

The pair then suggested doing a litter pick in a bid to raise awareness – after which they received a wave of support on social media.

Their mum Emma-Louisa said: “I’m so happy for my girls, their simple suggestion to do this will hopefully help raise awareness to stop the litter dropping in the first place.

“I was so proud of them, their enthusiasm to do it was amazing.”

The youngsters, who live and go to school in Stevenage, plan to do several more litter picks in the future.
