A 14-YEAR-OLD girl was sexually assaulted as she walked along an alleyway.

She was going along the path between The Walk and Mutton Lane when a man approached her from behind and lifted up her skirt.

The girl screamed and her attacker ran off into the adjoining cricket ground.

The assault took place at 7.55am on Thursday, April 17, but it has taken nearly two weeks - until this afternoon (Wednesday) - for police to release details.

The man has been described as white, aged between 30 and 40, between 5ft 8in and 5ft 10in tall, of slim build with short dark hair.

He was wearing a black Puffa jacket with a white top underneath and black shoes.

Pc Gary Bentley said: "This was very distressing for the girl and we are urging anyone who was in the area at the time who saw a man matching this description to please contact police.

"The victim also saw a white female aged in her late 40s walking along the lane when the incident occurred who is thought to regularly walk through the alley at this time."

"If this was you or you know this person please contact us."

Call police on 0845 33 00 222.
