YOUNG and enthusiastic Darren Gilbert was delighted to have won his first seat on Welwyn Hatfield Council.

The 22-year-old Conservative was elected in Hatfield Central ward.

Among the changes he wants to make to the area is the amount of police presence on the streets, as well as double glazing for all windows in Queensway House.

Delighted Darren, who had been up since 5am on polling day, told the WHT he was excited about his new role.

He said: "It's really fantastic for me. It just shows that people are listening to what we want to do in Hatfield.

"We've made an effort to go out and meet people.

"It's going to be very exciting.
