A NEW furniture store has opened in Hatfield, with all proceeds going towards helping the town’s young people.

YMCA Central Herts opened its new store, the charity’s third in Hertfordshire, with a Buck’s Fizz and bacon butty reception last week, attended by Welwyn Hatfield mayor Carl Storer.

The shop focuses on selling quality second-hand furniture and household items, with proceeds going towards projects like YMCA Space Hatfield – the youth and community centre based on the ground floor of Queensway House, just a few metres away from the store.

After trying out some of the furniture, and having a lie down on one of the beds, Cllr Storer said: “What a wonderful place. Hard times have hit many people and this is a great way to help.”

Fiona Eaton, YMCA Central Herts retail development manager, said: “The new shop will provide a great place for local people to purchase great quality furniture at affordable prices.

“All money made will help towards running more events and sessions such as Youth Space and community drop in sessions.”

The new shop also offers a free doorstep collection for all furniture donations, and will deliver purchases for a small fee.
