IT'S Chico time!

Well, not yet, but this summer it certainly will be, as the X Factor pop sensation is set to star at a WGC charity fun day.

There will also be acrobats, Redcoats and kid's characters provided by Butlins.

Fun In The Park has been organised by Alicia and Kevin Coghlan to raise cash for eye disease research charity, Fight For Sight.

The couple's 11-month-old son, Jackson, was born with Leber's Congenital Amaurosis (LCA), a rare eye condition that affects one in 65,000 people.

Alicia, who grew up in Panshanger, WGC, said: "Our son Jackson was diagnosed with LCA at the age of three months.

"Currently there isn't a cure but groundbreaking research has produced some brilliant initial results with patients' vision showing significant improvement.

"If this research can continue Jackson's specialist believes there will be massive steps forward towards a cure in our son's own lifetime."

The Butlins head office worker told the WHT they were still looking for sponsors for the event, on Sunday, July 5 at Stanborough Park.

She added: "I don't want people to feel sorry for us. I want it to be a fun day for everyone.

"There will be a sports day event, where 30 teams of 10 compete in events like tug of war, three legged race and egg and spoon; so it should be really good."

Use of Stanborough Park has been donated by Finesse Leisure.

Other attractions will include a food and craft market, radio roadshow, live bands, carnival stalls, a bouncy castle and face painters.

And as for Chico, Alicia, who now lives in Stevenage, said: "He has been very helpful with Butlins in the past and this is how we have got him involved.

"We don't know if he will be performing, but he will be here and be hosting the sports day event."
