Welwyn Hatfield Lib Dems have chosen a former borough councillor living locally as their candidate for the next General Election.
Claiming the Government could soon call a snap election, the local party has chosen professional geologist Nigel Quinton, who lives in Lemsford.
The 55-year-old, who formerly represented Handside on the borough council, said: “I am really proud to have been selected as it would be a huge honour to represent this wonderful area.
“Nationally the country is in crisis. Both the Conservatives and Labour are focused entirely on in-fighting while the economy worsens, threatening jobs and public services, and the environment is threatened like never before.”
In his professional role, Mr Quinton uses geological data to look for underground oil deposits.
He has campaigned on local issues such as the QE2 Hospital in Welwyn Garden City, and the proposed Hatfield incinerator, as well as standing for Parliament unsuccessfully in Hitchin and Harpenden.
