Police have sought to reassure the people of Welwyn Garden City following a stabbing at the weekend.

Chief Inspector Adam Willmot has spoken out after a stabbing in Parkway, Welwyn Garden City, in the early hours of Saturday morning.

He told the Welwyn Hatfield Times: “This is an active investigation and so you will understand that we need to be cautious about what we say, however I can tell you that this was a result of an altercation between two small groups of males following a minor incident in a bar.

“My Local Crime Unit is currently investigating and we are actively seeking two offenders. We are asking any witnesses who have not yet spoken to us to come forward.

“The victim is still in hospital but is progressing well and his condition is not life threatening.

“While I understand these incidents may cause concern I would stress that we believe them to be isolated and investigations are continuing.

“We are targeting our resources to deal with any issues raised and will continue to do so.

“Welwyn and Hatfield remain safe places to enjoy a night out and I want to reassure residents that we are taking these incidents seriously.”
