Woman killed in collision with train at Welham Green

A woman was killed after she was struck by a train at Welham Green this morning, police have confirmed.

British Transport Police (BTP) officers are not treating the incident that stopped all Welwyn Hatfield and Potters Bar trains at about 11am as suspicious, and are trying to identify the woman and inform her family.

A spokesman said: “We were called to Welham Green Station, shortly before 11.00am on Tuesday, May 3, following reports of a person being struck by a train.

“Officers from BTP, Hertfordshire Constabulary and paramedics from the East of England Ambulance Service also attended where a woman was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

“Officers are now working to identify the woman and inform her family.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

Service delays are expected until about 2pm.
