A WOMAN has been detained under the Mental Health Act after being found locked in a restaurant overnight.

The 43-year-old was discovered early this morning (Tuesday) by paramedics inside Pizza Express on Howardsgate, WGC.

Police were alerted by the ambulance crew just before 7am.

It was understood the woman, who was not a member of staff or a customer, had been locked in the building since it had closed at 11pm on Monday.

The Ware woman who had brown/gingery hair, was crying as she had to be forced into an ambulance by police just before 8am.

She was taken to the QE2 Hospital were she was assessed and detained.

Helen Redgrove, supervisor of the Pizza Express restaurant, said: "We are still trying to work out what has happened.

"The woman was definitely not a member of staff nor a customer.

"There seems to be no apparent damage apart from the front door being forced open by police.

"We will be throwing all the food away and sanitising the whole restaurant and toilets.

"The restaurant will be open as usual.
