A WOMAN in her 30s was targeted by a would-be thief in Hatfield yesterday evening (Tuesday), prompting a witness appeal.

The victim was walking along Alban Way toward Birchwood when she was approached by a man who tried to grab her handbag.

She was able to hold onto the bag, and the man ran off empty-handed in the direction of the Galleria.

It happened at around 6.50pm. The victim was unhurt.

The would-be thief is described as a slim white man with shaved blond hair, wearing a dark blue hoodie with navy blue combat shorts.

DC Glen Turrell-Oldacre, from the Local Crime Unit in Hatfield, said: “We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who a man of this description running from the scene.”
