A SHOPPING centre is offering a school the chance to win £1,000 to spend on sports equipment.

The Howard Centre in Welwyn Garden City launched an incentive scheme last Friday encouraging teachers, parents, pupils, family and friends from 19 schools in the area to earn points for their shopping.

Customers need to present their receipts from any Howard Centre store at the Shop for Schools Desk, on the first floor, and have the value exchanged for points, one point per pound.

The points will then be allocated to the customer’s school of choice.

At the end of the event, on August 24, the school with the most points per pupil will win £1,000 in cash to spend on sports equipment.

Centre manager Peter Brooks said: “We are always happy to support the local community whenever we can, particularly our local schools which are so hard-pressed for funds at the moment.

“Sports equipment is very expensive and with restrictions on school budgets this is one key area we know where cuts are being made.”
