Police have been attempting to free a wedged car with shovels after it became stuck sideways in a tight spot.

White Horse Lane was closed between Coltsfoot Lane and Robbery Bottom Lane after a silver two-seater Toyota MR2 skidded on the ice and became stuck between the raised banks either side of the narrow country lane.

Police were called at 8.37am and after ten minutes of efforts to free the car, recovery services werecalled.

“Thankfully no injuries but the vehicle is truly wedged in, despite our best efforts with a shovel”, tweeted officers at 9.12 am.

A police spokesperson advised: “Motorists are advised to take extra care on the roads in this weather.

“When de-icing your cars, don’t leave them unattended whilst running the engine.

“Opportunistic thieves may strike. Remember to completely clear your windows and lights so you can see and be seen.”

Police announced the road reopen at 10.55am.
