After having planning permission rejected twice, the pub giant reiterated its interest in the site – but has provided no additional update for months.

However, a sign has appeared advertising the proposed Cherry Tree boozer, sparking speculation that a development in the long-running saga is imminent.

A borough council spokeswoman said it has not received a planning application.

The Welwyn Hatfield Times has requested an update from Wetherspoon which it is understood will be issued this afternoon.

More to follow.
