J D Wetherspoon’s plan to convert a Welwyn Garden City house into a pub, which has split opinion across the town, is up for decision this week.

Borough council officers have recommended that the council planning committee, meeting on Thursday, should reject the application to convert a 1920s Parkway house into a pub.

The Cypress Room at Salvation House, Mundells, Welwyn Garden City, is likely to be packed, as the committee consider the controversial project from 7.30pm.

The pub chain’s proposals have been met with criticism from some residents, and protestors with placards are expected to be at the meeting.
