Welwyn students met an Olympic hero, who talked about the challenges of organising the 2012 Games.

The youngsters from Sherrardswood School met athlete and politician Lord Coe last week.

The Olympian, who won two gold and two silver medals, was at Roche Products in Shire Park.

Nick Mann, who is in Year 9, said: “It was a unique experience and an honour to meet him.”

And Teddy Topp, also in Year 9, said: “It was an exciting experience to meet such a great athlete.”

He told students about his on-track rivalries and the lessons learned from London 2012, as well as what drove him to succeed at the highest level.

Lord Coe said: “I feel very fortunate to have been able to inspire people through my career and through a sport I love.”
