A Welwyn woman is set to take on the Paris Marathon just a couple of weeks after holding a fundraising quiz.

Nikki Cowen, of Lancaster Way, will tackle the challenge on Sunday, April 9, after raising more than £500 for disability charity United Response from a quiz at Welwyn’s The Steamer pub last weekend.

She said: “I love running and really enjoy the social side of it.

“Running has changed my life and the people we support.

“In previous years, the money raised has gone towards a sensory garden for people we support and it is getting bigger and bigger.

“Holding fundraising events has been great fun and many local businesses support our Gombards service (a local Welwyn care home), including Suzzies Florist who always supported us with flower arrangements.

“This year, Riverlily Working Dogs are going to fundraise by holding a dog photo shoot.

“I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who attended the pub quiz on Saturday – friends and family really dug deep and I am over the moon with the amount of money we raised.”
