Crowds gathered in Welwyn at a beautifully decorated church to pay their respects on Remembrance Day.
Many showed up yesterday to honour 100 years since World War One and the guns falling silent.
Welwyn Scout Group led a parade to St Mary’s Church where a service by vicar Dominic Holroyd Thomas was held.
He said: “It was such a privilege and honour to lead Welwyn in their Act of Remembrance in this centenary year since the signing of the Armistice.”
At the Parish Eucharist, a altar cloth was placed on the altar which was used by the father of a member of the congregation.
The man had been a chaplain in the army in World War One, and the cloth had been used during Mass behind the trenches in France.
Stuart Carnegie, who attended and took these stiking photos, said: “The day went really well with what is believed to be a record turn out.”
For the occasion, the church door was painted by local artist Bryan Parkes and all the decorating was done by a team at the church led by Jane Carr.
