A sales assistant at John Lewis in Welwyn Garden City has organised a charity evening in memory of an inspirational colleague who died at just 19.

Sarah Robotham, who worked in the children’s shoes department, suddenly contracted meningitis in December, and died within just a few days.

Her colleague Nikky Brooks, 24, told the Welwyn Hatfield Times: “It was shocking for the whole team. We are quite a close-knit team, and we gave each other support through quite a tough time.”

In her short life, Sarah, who lived in Welwyn, did several fundraising stunts for Macmillan Cancer Support, including a skydive.

Nikky continued: “She wanted to help other people, and that has inspired me to want to do something for charity as well.”

She has arranged an evening of music and dancing, with a disc-jockey and a live singer, at the Forum, which is part of the Ibis Hotel in central Stevenage, on Saturday, November 22.

Tickets will cost £15, with all proceeds will go to the Meningitis Now charity.

The John Lewis Partnership has donated a sweet cart to raise further cash, and several shops have provided tempting prizes for a raffle.

Tickets are available by emailing estrellacharityevent@outlook.com
