A MAN accused of running a cannabis factory in Welwyn has been dramatically cleared by a judge.
Andrew Clay, 53, of The Avenue, had been charged with being concerned in the production of a Class B drug after police officers found 1,080 cannabis plants in a barn near the caravan in which he was staying.
But at St Albans Crown Court today (Wednesday), Mr Recorder Andrew Smith ordered the jury of seven men and five women to return a not guilty verdict on the defendant.
The judge made his ruling after deciding that the evidence presented by the prosecution was “insufficiently strong for the matter to continue”.
