A 16-year-old girl from Welwyn Garden City was honoured at the Hertfordshire County Council Youth Connexions Young People’s Awards.

Ella Newman from Panshanger, who is chair of Welwyn Hatfield Youth Council, was presented with the award in County Hall, Hertford on Wednesday, November 9.

Seventy-one young people from across Hertfordshire were honoured with awards, which were presented by county councillor Richard Roberts, executive member for children’s services.

The young people were nominated by their peers and Youth Workers across five categories: development in personal and social skills, commitment to volunteering and supporting other young people, contribution to their communities, contribution to youth democracy, and resilience in overcoming challenges.

Ella said: “It means a lot to me to win such a brilliant award. The night commended some amazing young people and just to be a part of the event was a huge honour.

“I couldn’t have done it without the amazing people at the borough council and also my fantastic youth council team. I’m just happy to serve the young people of the borough and do more amazing things for them in the future.”
