A bunny rabbit who was named after the Prime Minister has been named the Welwyn Hatfield Times Pet of the Year 2021.

Boris, who lives in Brooms Close, Welwyn Garden City, had to be lured with slices of banana before he agreed to pose with his award - despite usually being quite good at posing for photographs.

When asked how she felt when she learned that Boris had won the award, his owner Kelly Baker said: "I was surprised more than anything.

"I thought it would go to a cat or a dog. Rabbits never win anything."

Unlike his namesake, Boris, who turns six in April, remained quiet on the subject of the UK's COVID restrictions, preferring to munch his banana and try to knock over his new trophy.

Kelly said: "He's named after Boris Johnson because I used to love him when he was Mayor of London. I got him before he was made Prime Minister."

The WHT would like to thank all pets and their owners who took part in the competition.
