Police are appealing for Welwyn Hatfield residents to sign up to their Senior Watch scheme.

It is designed to help elderly neighbours or relatives who are often targeted by conmen, and involves residents signing up to receive email updates on crimes in the area.

The scheme is part of Neighbourhood Watch, which uses the Online Watch Link (OWL) system.

Chair of Herts Watch, Sue Thompson, said: “If there is a crime trend which we need to communicate to people urgently, we can send out an email at the touch of a button and have the information shared to hundreds of potential victims.

“Whilst we encourage elderly residents to sign up, we know that many elderly residents do not use email, so we would encourage family members, neighbours or carers to sign up to receive the free messages on their behalf.”

To sign up, log on to www.owl.co.uk/herts/senior or contact your local PCSO.
