Welwyn Hatfield MP Grant Shapps has said he is undecided on how he will vote in the European Union referendum in June.
He said: “Having campaigned long and hard to ensure that the United Kingdom gets this important in/out referendum, I am now listening carefully to the views of my constituents before I declare for either side in this crucial debate.
“It’s been 40 years since Britain was last given a say over our European membership. Back then it was just a trading block. Today the EU takes in a currency and more political union than ever before.
“I do believe the PM did a good job negotiating an end to so called ‘ever closer union’, but I’m weighing up whether the overall package sufficiently resets our relationship with the EU so that we can move forward on a more constructive basis.
“I believe the UK should be aiming to become the largest and most successful economy in Europe. As the Euro debate unfolds, my view will therefore be determined by whether I believe this objective is more likely achieved in or out of the European Union.”
