Welwyn Hatfield has superfast broadband in more than 95 per cent of its premises, latest figures have revealed.

A county council spokeswoman confirmed the figure equates to approximately 44,916 homes and businesses, and follows the government’s announcement that 19 out of 20 now had the high-speed service nationwide.

David Williams, cabinet member for resources and leader of Hertfordshire County Council, said: “It is excellent news that the national target of 95 per cent superfast broadband coverage has been reached and the Connected Counties Programme in Hertfordshire is a part of this success.

“Currently, nearly 96 per cent of homes and businesses in the county can access superfast broadband services, with speeds of 30mbps or above.

“The programme is targeting superfast access to 98.5 per cent of homes and businesses by the end of 2019.

“So far, Hertfordshire County Council, in partnership with BT Openreach, Herts Local Enterprise Partnership and Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK), has made access to superfast broadband available to more than 30,000 Hertfordshire homes and businesses since it launched.”
