RUBBISH being collected fortnightly WILL start in Welwyn Hatfield, after councillors gave the project the thumbs up at a meeting last night (Wednesday).
The 3.4m scheme, which will see every household in the borough having three wheelie bins was voted through almost unanimously. Only Labour councillors Keiran Thorpe and Maureen Cook voted against, and there was one abstention.
Arguments from the Lib Dem party to change part of the recommendation so that it would now include further consultation with the council’s own environment overview scrutiny committee were accepted.
The Lib Dems also managed to include the introduction of a “comprehensive monitoring procedure” so that reports will be sent to the council on a quartely basis during the first 12 months of the scheme being put into practice.
