Hertfordshire County Council elections and a by-election in Welwyn Hatfield will take place in just over a month.

On Thursday, May 4, Welwyn Hatfield voters will choose who they want to represent them at county level at Hertfordshire County Council.

Eight new councillors will be elected to represent Haldens, Handside & Peartree, Hatfield East, Hatfield North, Hatfield Rural, Hatfield South, Welwyn, and Welwyn Garden City South.

On the same day, residents of the Panshanger ward, in Welwyn Garden City, can also vote in a by-election for a new borough councillor, following the resignation of councillor Martyn Levitt earlier this month.

There are no other borough council elections due to take place in 2017.

Information for prospective candidates and voters is available on the council’s website.

A borough council spokesman said: “Those wishing to vote must have successfully registered in time in order to take part.

Go to www.gov.uk/register-to-vote – and if you have completed a correct application that has been successfully processed by April 13, then you may still be able to apply for a postal vote, as long as this is done before April 18.

“The full details, including timescales, are on our website.
