THE leader of the Labour group on Welwyn Hatfield Council was among party activists who met leadership hopeful Ed Miliband during his visit to Hertfordshire at the weekend.
Cllr Kieran Thorpe chatted to Mr Miliband, who is hoping to be named the next Labour leader, during a whistle-stop visit to St Albans on Saturday.
“He was very impressive,” Cllr Thorpe said.
The leadership contest was triggered when Gordon Brown stood down as Prime Minister and Labour leader in May following his party’s defeat in the General Election.
Former Climate Change Secretary Mr Miliband will be facing off against four other candidates, namely his elder brother, one-time Foreign Secretary David Miliband, former Schools Secretary Ed Balls, ex-Health Secretary Andy Burnham and left-wing rebel backbencher Diane Abbott.
